Communications Director Almost Left White House Months Before She Announced Her ResignationAccording to New York Magazine, Hicks reportedly told US President Donald Trump's daughter Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner that she was unhappy in her role in August of last year, The Hill reported.

The Kushners told Hicks she should wait for then-incoming chief of staff John Kelly to change the order of the West Wing.

Hicks reportedly seriously considered stepping down a second time in December and ended up signing a six-month lease at the cost of inflation for her apartment when her lease came up for renewal.

She reportedly went over a series of scenarios of her stepping down and how they would play in the press in her notebook.

Hicks figured if she stepped down immediately, her departure would be the top bad news story for the administration for the winter.

She also took her role into federal and congressional probes into alleged ties between the Trump campaign and Russian election meddling.

Hicks resigned from the White House last month after being by the President's side since the dawn of the presidential campaign.

"There are no words to adequately express my gratitude to President Trump. I wish the President and his administration the very best as he continues to lead our country,” she said in a statement.

Hicks was one of Trump's most trusted aides and confidants.

She had testified before the House Intelligence Committee just one day before and said she sometimes told "white lies" while working for the President.
